Job Opportunities

We are looking for enthusiastic people to fill a number of roles, both paid and voluntary, on a freelance basis.  Please send your CV with a covering letter explaining why you would like to join our team to carolyn@whalebags.com.

Workshop Leaders

We are looking to employ 5-10 people to run our workshops in schools or with business groups on a freelance basis.  You will be responsible for leading the bottle boards workshops for groups of 10-15 students, usually with one or two helpers.  The workshops are broken into two stages, usually run over two afternoons: 1. preparing the bottles and 2. joining the bottles to make pipes.  During the ‘preparation stage’, the students: pump up the plastic bottles with air, cut bottles to make sleeves and sand the bottles where they join.  The ‘joining stage’ is where students connect a bottle to a sleeve with silicone glue to make long pipes of between 5 and 9 full bottles.  We will be running training workshops for successful applicants in the Spring, COVID permitting.  You must enjoy arts and crafts as this is fiddly work!  You must have experience leading groups of children and be confident at giving clear instructions and managing children’s behaviour.  Teaching experience is useful, although not essential; you will have to be DBS checked (this can be arranged).  Most of all, you must be passionate about the environment and stopping the flow of plastic into our oceans.  In addition to running workshops, you may be asked to give assemblies or talks on plastic, so knowledge and understanding of the topic is important.  This is a paid role.

Workshop Helpers

We are looking for enthusiastic people to help run our workshops on a freelance basis.  The role is similar to the workshop leader position described above, however you will be supporting the workshop leader and will not be expected to take control of the whole class.  This is an excellent position for anyone who wants to build confidence and gain experience in a classroom setting and it could lead to the full workshop leader position in time.  This is a paid role.

Fundraising

Are you an individual or would you like to fundraise at work or school?  We would be delighted if you would like to fundraise for us and it is easy to set up using our online platform: Facebook Fundraisers.  All you have to do is set up a page, which free to do and then share with all your friends… then have fun doing whatever it is you have decided to do!  Get in touch and we will support you.
